"I think that I found my favorite neighbourhood bakery not in my neighbourhood. About a month ago, I visited Delightful Pastries for a cooking class with my cooking group. Chef Dobra is an amazing host and chef. She taught us the intricacies of tarts and pastry crusts with an amazing sense of humour and wit. She was so incredibly welcoming and sweet throughout the class. She treated us to hot tea, pastries from the shop, and paczkis. It was my first paczki for my Midwestern Polish self. The paczkis are buttery, light, and sweet. I enjoyed the plum butter version which my mom later revealed is a prune, but I don't care, it's damn good. After this class, I fell in love with the bakery..."

Pastry/Cooking Classes

The classes are taught by Dobra Bielinski, pastry chef and owner of Delightful Pastries and run about 2.5 hours long.

Classes vary in price based on complexity.
Maximum of 12 people attending.

To reserve a spot please send a check to 5927 W Lawrence Ave, Chicago IL 60630. If for any reason a class needs to be cancelled the participants will be refunded their money.

Layered Cakes

We will make some classic cakes in this class, from the super popular Chocolate Cake, Whipped Cream Cake to the famous Southern Lane Cake. All the students will be putting together their own cakes.

Strudel Class

We shall be learning how to make Austrian strudel dough, learning how to pull it and making our own sweet and savory strudels in class. After a tasting of our strudels students will get to take a strudel home with them.

Savory Baking

Saturday, June 2, 2018 @ 12:30 PM – 2:30 PM CDT

We shall be making savory baked goods in this classes. There will be savory scones, savory tarts and savory pinwheels. Students will learn how to make scones, short dough and use puff pastry. We shall be tasting the fruit of our labors in class and leftovers will be taken home by students.

Gluten Free Baking

Saturday, September 8, 2018 @ 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM CDT

In this classes students will learn how to make gluten free desserts. We shall start off with making 2 types of gluten free cookies, then move to pana cottas and chocolate cremeux. The chef will demonstrate how to take one simple recipe and come up with different variants. We shall set up a gluten free dessert buffet and taken the non eaten desserts home.

Pie Class

Saturday, November 17, 2018 @ 12:00 PM – 2:30 PM CST

Students will learn how to make pie dough using 100 percent butter. Then various fillings will be made and all the students will make their own pies. Students shall learn how to flute pie shells and bake off their pies. In this class we shall make apple blackberry crumble pie, pecan chocolate bourbon pie and Shaker buttermilk pie.

Cookie Class

Saturday, December 8, 2018 at 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM CST

This class will show students how to prepare to make lots of cookies in a short amount of time. Some of the cookies will be gluten free other will be classical American and European holiday cookies. Some of the cookies that students will be making are Lace Cookies, Viennese Almond Crescents, Macaroons, Snickerdoodles and more. Each student shall take one pound of cookies home with them.
